The opportunity
We’re looking for a Consultant with strong analytical skills, curiosity and a passion for evidence-based planning and policy. This role offers the chance to work across a wide range of projects, contribute to shaping places and communities, and develop your expertise within a supportive and collaborative team.
You will be working in a multidisciplinary team primarily responsible for strategic land use planning and governance, local economic development and urban policy, as well as working collaboratively across all our teams as required. This is a permanent full-time role, ideally based in our Melbourne office.
What you’ll do
As a Consultant at SGS, you will:
- Plan and deliver projects to scope, budget and timelines.
- Undertake research, analysis and synthesise to inform projects and highlight policy implications.
- Translate technical findings into plain language and compelling visuals for diverse audiences.
- Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive team culture.
- Use a range of professional tools and software to prepare reports, presentations and analysis.
A bit about you
We’re seeking candidates with:
- 2–3 years’ experience in consulting or the government sector.
- Qualifications/background in urban planning, social policy, economics, geography or a related field.
- Experience or interest in housing analysis (demand/supply, feasibility, precinct/regional planning).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex detail.
- Data analysis capability: strong Excel skills, familiarity with ABS demographic data, programming (Python preferred).
- GIS skills: QGIS experience highly regarded.
- Visual presentation skills: Adobe Suite an advantage.
- Stakeholder engagement and community consultation experience will be well-regarded.
