Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics
Accelerating the development of pandemic treatments from years to weeks, the Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics represents a major investment in global health innovation.
SGS assessed the economic value of the Cumming Global Centre for Pandemic Therapeutics, established with a $250 million philanthropic donation and $75 million in Victorian government funding to accelerate the development of pandemic therapeutics.
Using cost benefit and economic impact analysis, we demonstrated the Centre’s contribution to Victoria’s economy through job creation, industry development and long-term health benefits. The work also quantified wider economic effects, including research spillovers and productivity gains from collaboration between academia and industry.
Our analysis considered:
- The flow of benefits to Victoria’s economy and workforce over time
- Wider innovation and knowledge spillover effects
- The Centre’s contribution to resilience and reduced health system costs
- Long-term social and economic value creation for Victoria and Australia
The analysis showed that, if the Centre meets its targets, then it will deliver significant economic and social benefits, positioning Victoria as a world leader in pandemic preparedness and response.
