Common questions

What is an Investment Impact Estimator?

The Investment Impact Estimator provides a preliminary assessment of the economic impact that could be generated by your project, in terms of jobs and gross state product added. This can help inform early project planning and initial engagement with government stakeholders. However, it doesn't constitute a full Economic Impact Assessment. For a detailed assessment, contact our team at SGS.

Do I need one for planning approvals?

State and local governments often require an Economic Impact Assessment for project approval. In Victoria, for example, it is a requirement for applications assessed under the Development Facilitation Program. Always confirm the requirements in your own jurisdiction.

What's the difference between direct and indirect impacts?

Direct effect: the spending and jobs generated by the project itself.

First-round effect: the additional spending and jobs generated by the project's purchases from its immediate suppliers.

Indirect effect: captures further rounds of supply-chain spending and wages re-spent by workers. A full Economic Impact Assessment should include both the direct and indirect effects.
