Tāmaki Transformation Programme

Location:

Tāmaki, New Zealand

Residents of Tāmaki experience higher levels of social and economic disadvantages compared to the broader Auckland region.

The Tāmaki Development Plan (TDP) outlines a range of initiatives aimed at regenerating Tāmaki and delivering long-term benefits for communities across New Zealand.

SGS Economics and Planning collaborated with the Tāmaki Transformation Programme to develop an economic value proposition for the initiatives outlined in the TDP. In articulating the economic value, two widely accepted approaches were applied: a cost benefit analysis and an economic impact assessment.

The cost benefit analysis demonstrated the whole of life triple bottom line project costs and contrasted with the anticipated benefit to the New Zealand community. The economic impact assessment provides an assessment of the overall economic impact of implementing the TDP.

The SGS analysis found that adopting the TDP would be a good investment and policy direction and that its implementation would likely boost the New Zealand economy.
