Golf is one of the largest sports in the country and generates important benefits for golfers and the Australian community.

SGS Economics and Planning recently partnered with Golf Australia and the Australian Golf Industry Council (AGIC) to examine how golf facilities can maximise the benefits they deliver to users and the wider community. The project was a continuation of work done by SGS in 2023, which quantified the economic, social and environmental benefits of the golf industry in Australia. To extend the application of the 2023 report, the AGIC commissioned a report to provide the information and tools to help golf venue operators enhance the value of their venue to members and the broader community—in other words, to maximise the benefits of golf venues.

SGS consulted golf facility owners and operators to understand the factors driving their success. Ten key themes formed the basis of the report and its practical recommendations.

In addition, SGS developed a dashboard to help golf operators estimate the monetary value of the benefits they generate. This dashboard has supported golf facilities in quantifying the benefits they generate through each of their offerings and helped justify proposed upgrades and course improvements.
