Client:

City of Gold Coast

Sector/s:

The Gold Coast is on track to be home to over 1 million residents by 2046. As the City grows and urban areas densify, open space will come under increasing pressure. Planning, delivering and programming it well will be essential to preserving the outdoor lifestyle and quality of life residents love.

The City of Gold Coast engaged SGS to develop its first Open Space Strategic Plan. The work established a baseline of the current state of open space and identified the future focus areas required to respond to forecast growth.

Our analysis combined qualitative and quantitative assessments to develop:

  • Spatial analysis of the City’s existing open space assets and forecast growth
  • Future provision standards, including Desired Standards of Service to inform an update to the Local Government Infrastructure Plan
  • Open space gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • Focus areas, actions, and measures for success

Open space is integrated across most areas of the City’s work. To draw on expertise across the City, we ran multiple workshops and engagement sessions to test and refine assumptions and priority focus areas.

The adopted Plan provides a long-term framework for how the City plans, upgrades, and manages its open spaces. The work gives the City a strong foundation for future partnerships and investment, helping it build and maintain an open space network that supports the current and future population.
