Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union & Climate Action Network Australia

Australia is a global leader in researching and developing renewable energy and has access to some of the world's finest renewable energy sources.

This presents a significant opportunity for Australia to become a renewable energy superpower, creating jobs across cities and towns while moving towards a clean energy future.

However, while other major economies worldwide are advancing by investing in manufacturing renewable energy infrastructure, Australia’s inaction puts it at risk of falling behind.

Partnering with the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union, Climate Action Network Australia, Boundless Earth, and the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, we developed a report identifying Australia's major global clean energy sector industry opportunities.

The five key opportunities we identified that align with existing core industry capabilities, fill in a supply chain gap, shore up domestic demand or unlock significant export potential are:

  1. Diversified battery supply chain
  2. High voltage cable manufacturing
  3. Wind tower manufacturing and offshore wind port infrastructure
  4. Solar supply chain expansion
  5. Electric heavy vehicle manufacturing
